What Happened at Bouncy World — And Why It Mattered

On April 7, 2024, WeBearish hosted an Autism Acceptance Week event. Here is what it looked like, and why a party is sometimes the most radical act of acceptance there is.

On April 7, 2024, WeBearish hosted an Autism Acceptance Week party at Bouncy World Indoor Mega Playland. Fox 5 News was there. Families were there. Kids were there.

And for a few hours, the space belonged entirely to them.

Why a party

The instinct when building an autism organization is to reach for programs. Workshops. Resources. Support groups. All of that has value. But WeBearish started with a party — and that choice was deliberate.

Autistic children are often told, implicitly or explicitly, that their presence in certain spaces is conditional. That they can participate if they are quiet enough, still enough, typical enough. That their behavior must be managed before they can fully belong.

A party is the opposite of that. A party says: you are welcome here as you are. Come and play. Come and feel what it is like to be in a space that was built for you today.

That is what Bouncy World looked like on April 7. Kids bouncing. Families talking. No speeches about challenges or deficits. No therapy framing. No tragedy narrative. Just joy — unfiltered, unconditioned, real.

What Fox 5 covered

Fox 5 News showed up because a parent-driven, community-funded autism acceptance event was a story worth telling. What they found was not what autism coverage usually looks like.

This was not a piece about the difficulties of raising autistic children. It was a piece about a community that decided to celebrate. That distinction matters. The story you tell about autistic children shapes how they see themselves, and how the world sees them.

What came next

The Bouncy World event was the beginning. A proof of concept for what WeBearish is: a movement that shows up in the real world, not just online. That creates moments of belonging, not just awareness.

Baby steps. Big dreams.

The next event will be bigger. The community will be larger. And every dollar WeBearish earns between now and then goes back into making it happen.

Join the movement.

100% of profits go back into autism acceptance initiatives. Every person who joins makes the next event possible.
