Thursday before Thanksgiving

Caregiver Appreciation Day

A day recognizing the often invisible work of caregivers — including parents of autistic children who navigate complex systems, provide daily support, and advocate tirelessly. Caregiver burnout is real and deserves acknowledgment and support.

History

Caregiver Appreciation Day is observed in November in connection with Thanksgiving themes of gratitude. Various healthcare and disability organizations have promoted caregiver recognition days at different points throughout the year.

How to Participate

  • Offer concrete support to caregiver families — not just kind words
  • Learn about respite care and how to access it
  • Advocate for caregiver support programs in your state's budget
  • Support autistic adults' independence — it reduces long-term caregiver burden
  • Check in with caregiver parents about their own wellbeing, not just their child's
