National Siblings Day

A day honoring sibling relationships — particularly meaningful in autism families, where siblings often navigate unique experiences. Siblings of autistic children have their own needs for support, connection, and recognition.

History

National Siblings Day was founded by Claudia Evart in 1995 to honor her siblings who died young. It is widely observed but not a federal holiday. For autism families, the day is an opportunity to celebrate all siblings and acknowledge the unique experiences of neurotypical siblings.

How to Participate

  • Check in with neurotypical siblings — do they have space to share their own feelings?
  • Connect with Sibshops or similar sibling support programs
  • Make space for siblings to have their own identity outside their autistic sibling's story
  • Celebrate all sibling relationships in your family
  • Support sibling-specific resources at autism conferences and organizations
