October 2
World AAC Day
A global awareness day focused on Augmentative and Alternative Communication, held on the same day as World Autism Acceptance Day to highlight the intersection of autism and communication access. AAC users lead the day's advocacy.
History
World AAC Day is organized by the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC). It falls on October 2 — chosen to echo April 2, World Autism Acceptance Day — reflecting how closely autism and AAC advocacy are linked.
How to Participate
- →Share information about AAC devices, apps, and communication strategies
- →Learn the phrase 'presume competence' and what it means in practice
- →Watch videos created by AAC users about their communication experiences
- →Ask your child's school about their AAC policy — every nonspeaking student deserves a robust communication system
- →Support legislation and insurance coverage for AAC devices
