World Kindness Day

A global day promoting kindness and compassion. For the autism community, kindness means more than surface niceness — it means genuine inclusion, accommodation, and respect for neurodivergent ways of being.

History

World Kindness Day was introduced in 1998 at the World Kindness Movement conference in Tokyo. It is now observed in more than 28 countries.

How to Participate

  • Practice accommodation as an act of kindness — meet autistic people where they are
  • Push back on ableist behavior when you see it
  • Recognize the exhaustion of masking and reduce demands on autistic people in your life
  • Teach children that real kindness includes respecting differences in how people communicate
  • Support sensory-friendly spaces in your community
